CLASSIC BLEND SOUTH INDIA

Description

This typical package starts with your arrival in Mumbai. The next day we are at Elephanta Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and experience the 1200 years old history devoted to Lord Shiva, as the Trinity – the Creator, the Preserver and the Destroyer too. Mumbai shows us the Indo—Saracenic architecture through many of its historical articles. We further our visit to Aurangabad for Ellora, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, the temples and monasteries show a remarkable display of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism architecutre and patterns. Ajanta, yet another UNESCO World Heritage Site is devoted to the early Buddhism in India. A sparkling surprise remains Bibi Ka Maqbara, a tomb made by Aurangzeb’s son Azam Shah in the sweet memory of his mother; which seems a replica of the Taj Mahal. We may learn a little history of the family too. From Aurangabad we fly to Kochi (Kerala) and get to live its fine blended history of European and Asian living. We move to Munnar, home of superfine teas and forests. Obviously we buy our desired teas and know the people around. We reach Periyar National Park and Wild Life Sanctuaries and see different species in the lap of Mother Nature. Next we reach Kumarakom whence we cruise houseboat for Allepey (Alappuzha). We see to the backwaters village-life sharply. We rejuvenate at Kovalam with sunbathing, Ayurvedic massages & treatments, health resorts and cliff beach itself. We visit Thiruvananthapuram to see the historical Temple of Sri Padmanabhaswamy and the Old Palace of Travancore. Finally Trivandrum International Airport makes us bid a sweet goodbye with sweet experience of the tour.

ARRIVAL AT MUMBAI

BEFORE WE START WE WISH TO EMPHASIZE THAT THE DETAILS OF SITES OR PLACES IN OUR TOURS DO NOT REMAIN RESTRICTED OR CONCLUSIVE. ON THE CONTRARY WE MEET MUCH MORE IN OUR WAY TO OUR DESTINATIONS.

We welcome you at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport and escort you to the selected hotel for an overnight stay.

MUMBAI

Good Morning, Mumbai erstwhile Bombay !

Mumbai = Mumba + Aai, i.e., Mumba Mother / Goddess Mumba / Mumba Devi, so Mumbai is the City of Goddess or Mother Mumba. The morning excursion towards Elephanta Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site : Across the Mumbai harbour you will see the world famous Elephanta Caves - 1200 years old and dedicated to Lord Shiva. The famous sculpture signifying the Trinity of the Creator, the Preserver and the Destroyer is situated here. The city’s long association with the British is reflected in the old world charm of its buildings made with / in the Indo-Saracenic architecture / style. One fine example is the Gateway of India at Apollo Bunder overlooking the harbour.Sightseeing Mumbai may include visiting the Prince of Wales Museum, Marine Drive, Mani Bhawan (Gandhi House), Flora Fountain, Kamala Nehru Park and finally to the Hanging Gardens.
Overnight stay at hotel.

MUMBAI TO AURANGABAD ( FLIGHT) > EXCRUSION ELLORA

After breakfast, we reach the airport to board flight for Aurangabad. Today we visit Ellora (another UNESCO World Heritage Site) about 50 km from the city. Unlike Ajanta, this site shows a great sculptural profusion, with most of the temples & monasteries being excavated / cut directly from the rock. At Ellora the sanctuaries are devoted to Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. However, the complexity and elegance of its structures tell us about a highly evolved art. Upon returning we may walk through the market and the old part of the city and buy some mementos.

Overnight stay at hotel.

AURANGABAD > AJANTA EXCRUSION

After breakfast we start for Ajanta (yet, another UNESCO World Heritage Site), about 120 km from the city. Ajanta is one of the remote jewels of India. The caves excavated in the interior of Maharashtra contain the best art, architecture & depictions of early Buddhism in India, as well as excellent temples carved into the rock. The mural paintings’ being preserved over the centuries shows an exceptional technique. The murals made in different periods represent the Buddhist iconography. The abandonment of the caves allowed them to be preserved for centuries.

In the afternoon, we return to Aurangabad where we can visit the Bibi ka Maqbara, a royal tomb made by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s son Azam Shah in the sweet memory of his mother. The tomb bears a striking resemblance to the world-famous Taj Mahal. Aurangzeb was the third son of Shah Jahan and obviously Azam Shah was the grandson of Shah Jahan.

Overnight stay at hotel.

AURANGABAD > MUMBAI > KOCHI (MORNING FLIGHT)

After breakfast, transfer to the airport to board flight for Kochi.

Cochin or now, Kochi, had been the port for the merchants of Arab, China and Europe in 14th century.
And the life today in here still displays the blend of these cultures and life-styles.

The city of Fort Kochi is situated at an island opposite the port of Ernakulam. Its streets have preserved the colonial life-style / environment, something that has attracted numerous artists and intellectuals. Therefore, Kochi breathes a unique and bohemian atmosphere-cum-social environment with charming cafes and restaurants. At the same time, it is a city full of attractions such as its famous Cantilevered Chinese fishing nets that are a beautiful setting for the sunset. Cochin spice market, the Sun spice market most famous spice market in Kerala and its signs of the Jewish culture remains important to visit and make some purchases.

In the evening we may observe Kathakali dance show (one of the major Indian Classical Dances).
Overnight stay at hotel.

KOCHI TO MUNNAR

After breakfast, half day sightseeing of Kochi includes Asia's best preserved Synagogue, the Dutch Palace and the oldest European Church in India - the St. Francis Church where Vasco De Gama was originally buried.

A leisurely walk through the Fort Cochin which gives a close look at the operation of the huge Cantilevered Chinese fishing nets introduced by Chinese traders which are still used in Kerala backwaters as a traditional way of fishing.

Afternoon, we leave for Munnar.

Overnight stay at hotel.

MUNNAR

Good Morning Munnar !
Munnar is a heaven for tea-lovers. The teas of India are worldwide famous for their variety, taste and aroma too. And obviously we are free to pick the best that suits our taste or wish and buy at quite reasonable prices in here. We may visit a cooperative unit of workers and tea plantation owners too.
We may visit the Eravikulam National Park and see the mountain goats in their natural habitat. Munnar gives us a little chance to walk through the forests too.
Overnight stay at hotel.

MUNNAR TO PERIYAR

After breakfast we leave for Periyar.

Periyar National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary has been home to elephants, wild cats, tigers and many species of animals and birds. The Park is a fascinating protection to the Ecosystem and Flora & Fauna all around. The morning cruise on the lake Periyar will allow us to spot the huge pachyderms bathing with their calves.

Overnight stay at hotel.

PERIYAR TO KUMARAKOM > OVERNIGHT BACKWATER TRIP TILL ALLEPEY

After breakfast we leave for Kumarakom whence we cruise houseboat for Allepey (Alappuzha). We dedicate the day to a houseboat cruise ride on the backwaters that takes us from Kumarakom to the city of Alleppey through narrow canals dotted by coconut trees and small villages. We have the opportunity to see first-hand the life on the banks of these canals, crops and traditional fishing, in addition to enjoying the relaxed life on board. We get to know the human survival based on waters, paddy, coconut and coir in backwater villages. The ship has all the amenities and the crew serve us exquisite Keralí food and show us the main attractions en route.

Note : The cruise commences at 1300 hrs with lunch served onboard and continues till dusk. At dusk the boat anchors in a wide waterway or lake for the night. (The backwaters route remains closed to boat traffic at dusk as the fisherman lay their nets in the backwaters. Other boats / vessels are not allowed to ply in the backwaters during the period.) On the following day the cruise commences again after breakfast and we reach Allepey by 1000 hrs.

Alleppey (Alappuzha), is the city of backwaters, seawater inlets in the continent that form lagoons and channels of breathtaking beauty. We get established houseboat cruises in here. Traditions and temples confirm the purity of history of life on waters here.

Overnight stay at hotel.

ALLEPEY TO KOVALAM

Breakfast and, we check out from the houseboat and driving proceeds to Kovalam.

Welcome to Kovalam ! And Kerala !

A paradise for sunbathing, Yoga and Ayurvedic treatments and massaging, health resorts and shopping zones.

KOVALAM
Good Morning, Kovalam ! We may start for Varkala beach, the cliff beach, declared one of the top ten (10) seasonal beaches of the world by Discovery Channel. The beauty of landscapes, brown sand and sea fascinate us. And the spa, Ayurvedic treatment centers, and mineral springs do rejuvenate human bodies. Bathing at the beach is deemed holy for it washes away our sins, therefore, called the Papanasam beach. Overnight stay at hotel.
KOVALAM

We may visit Thiruvananthapuram to see the Temple of Sri Padmanabhaswamy and the Old Palace of Travancore. The historical temples and traditions in here make us imagine and fascinate about the ancient India.
