ARRIVAL AT KOLKATA

BEFORE WE START WE WISH TO EMPHASIZE THAT THE DETAILS OF SITES OR PLACES IN OUR TOURS DO NOT REMAIN RESTRICTED OR CONCLUSIVE. ON THE CONTRARY WE MEET MUCH MORE IN OUR WAY TO OUR DESTINATIONS.

We welcome you at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport and escort you to the selected hotel for an overnight stay.

KOLKATA TO BHUBANESWAR

Good Morning, Kolkata !
We reach the railway station to take a train to Orissa (Odisha), the state on the shore of the Bay of Bengal with different tribal cultures and ancient Hinduism.
Bhubaneshwar, the capital, is known as the city of temples. In addition, this city serves as basis to start the itineraries in the mountain areas where a good part of the tribal peoples of the state live.
Overnight stay at the hotel.

BHUBANESWAR

Good Morning, Bhubaneswar !
In the old city we are able to see temples dotted around the  Bindu Sagar Lake including the 11th century Lingaraja Temple.   We  see structures  more than 1000 years old that maintain religious fervor in their maximum exponent. The temples of Lingaraja, and the nearby tantric temple of Vaital Deul, Parasurameswara remain mysterious and fascinating too. In the temple of Mukteswara of the tenth century, we can appreciate the magnificent reliefs of the Panchatantra stories. Temple Mukteswara has been devoted to Lord Shiva who is supposed or worshiped for freedom through Yoga.
Overnight stay at hotel.

BHUBANESWAR TO TAPTAPANI

Good Morning, Bhubaneswar !
We start for the area of greater tribal concentration. En route we can stop at local markets to begin to imbue the rural environment. Taptapani (hot water) is a spring of sulphur in Ganjam district.
Overnight stay at hotel.

TAPTAPANI TO RAYAGADA

The road between Taptapani and Rayagada will allow us to stop in some weekly markets frequented by the tribes Desia Kondh and Kutia Kondh. The Kutia tribe people are easily recognizable by the geometric tattoos that adorn the face and the hands of women. These tattoos are identified with the funeral or last rites, since they help them to be recognized with their tribe in the afterlife. We can also see members of the Dengariya Kondh (tribe) people who wear robes of white cotton and usually wear large anklets in the nose and ears. Overnight stay at hotel.

RAYAGADA > CHATIKONA < RAYAGADA > JEYPORE

In this area we will have the opportunity to approach the Dengaria Kondh tribes.
Kondh people are the Dravidian (ancient India) human beings and if you want to know the history of India, it remains a must to observe the Kondhs.
Chatikona is a small village in Rayagada district.  The weekly market takes place in here.
Dengaria Kondh people  have a special relationship with music and dance and their songs of love, marriage, and harvest are of great originality.  We  also meet the Desia Kondh who are tribes of the plains with more complex rituals. In the afternoon we return to Rayagada to start for Jeypore.
Overnight stay at hotel.

JEYPORE > ONUKUDELLI < JEYPORE

After breakfast we visit the Bonda tribe and their markets in Onnukudelli.
The markets or bazaars whether weekly or fortnightly, are almost solely meant for the tribes of Odisha.
It is an extensive market for mountain region. The Bondas are an interesting tribe of Odisha, formerly and wrongly known as naked people, they are placed in the hillsides of the homonymous mountains. Bondas are believed to be migrants from Africa about 60,000 years ago.  Historically there have been aggressive and cruel groups, so they are considered fierce and bloodthirsty warriors. In the afternoon we return to Jeypore. Overnight stay at hotel.

JEYPORE > KUNDULI (NANDAPUR) > JEYPORE

In the morning we go to Kunduli where the tribes are inhabited. One of the most interesting aspects of these groups are their recognized totems. We can see the totems of Bagh (tiger), Bodka (goat), Netam (dog), Pandki (pigeon).  According to their way of life, it remains forbidden to exercise violence against totemic animals, which are respected with great veneration. They believe in the gods that inhabit nature so they also revere their mountains and forests.
The tribes of Odisha are the natural treasures for the anthropologists and even social-psychologists.
After the visit we go back to Jeypore.
Overnight stay at hotel.

JEYPORE > GUPTESWAR > BALIGAON > JEYPORE > KORAPUT > BHUBANESWAR

Good Morning, Jeypore !
Today's visit is  towards Gupteswar, a cave dedicated to Lord Shiva. Thousands of pilgrims visit this place, especially during the Bol Bom yatra. Bathing in the mahakund (great bathing pond) near Shiva Linga is a blessing. The landscape of the cave with its stalagmites is impressive and seems pre-historic & mystic.
We continue towards Baligaon for its historical temples.  And via Jeypore we return to the capital of the state, Bhubaneswar,  passing through Koraput, the historical area with many dynasties - Nalas, Ganga and Suryavanshi kings, to name a few, and now, last nucleus linked with the mountain villages. From here, the Oriya culture and the Hindu population make up the majority of the population.
Ovedrnight stay at hotel.

BHUBANESWAR > KONARK > PURI

Good Morning, Bhubaneswar !
Today we visit the Sun Temple of Konark, UNESCO World Heritage Site,  known as the Black Pagoda. More than 800 years old, built as a real temple in black granite, its shape is inspired by a chariot of war that symbolizes the vehicle of Surya, the Sun. Part of the temple is damaged by successive invasions and plundering.
We continue towards Puri, another sacred city of Odisha.
The Jagannath Temple here is a mystery in many ways.  The Temple is one among the four (4) most sacred pilgrimage of the Hindus on Earth. The flag mounted at the top of the Temple flows in the opposite direction of the air course.  Secondly, the flag is changed every day without exception by a priest in here who climbs about the height of more than 40 (forty) storeys of a building.  The process is completed with bare hands and without any protective apparatus or gears.
Overnight stay at hotel.

PURI > CHILIKA LAKE < PURI

Good Morning, Lord Jagannath !
From Puri beach we visit the largest salt water lake, the Chilika Lake in the region. In Chilika we can see many migratory birds such as flamingos, teals, geese, etc.  Many of them come from Siberia in search of warmth of the Indian climate. With a little luck we can also see the Ganges dolphin, a rare species of cetacean that lives in this area and which can be seen in a boat ride. We  return to Puri where we can finish the day with a walk on the shore / beach.
Overnight stay at hotel.

PURI > BHUBANESWAR > KOLKATA

Good Morning, Puri !
We  return to Bhubaneswar to take a train to Kolkata.
We arrive in the capital of West Bengal, Kolkata, one of the megalopolis of India, where we can learn about the Bengali culture and the British heritage too,  in which Calcutta (now Kolkata) was the capital of India during the British Raj from 1773 to 1911..
Overnight stay at hotel.

KOLKATA

Kolkata was one of the first sites as trading posts of the East India Company in Asia.
It was the capital of the British India until 1911 and therefore retains a vast heritage of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. But now that is confused with the megalopolis in which it has been transformed.
We have all the day to discover the imperial environment of the ancient Calcutta with its majestic monuments such as the Victoria Memorial and the huge Maidan, where almost all sports activities take place, viz., cricket, football, racecourse, etc. and where we can also see the original location of Fort William. We can visit the House of Mother Teresa and her Missionaries of Charity too.  Other places of interest are the Howrah Bridge, Belur Math, Vivekananda Setu, Nakhoda Mosque ..., there are so many things and aspects to observe around.
Finally, we can not leave the city without offering prayers in the Dakshineswar Kali Temple, Kali, the goddess destroyer of evil and protector of the city.
Late evening, we need a little rest at the hotel.

KOLKATA

Transit to the airport is already arranged.
We bid a sweet goodbye at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport , you embrace the finest experience & memories and leave for your home.
