ARRIVAL AT CHENNAI

BEFORE WE START WE WISH TO EMPHASIZE THAT THE DETAILS OF SITES OR PLACES IN OUR TOURS DO NOT REMAIN RESTRICTED OR CONCLUSIVE. ON THE CONTRARY WE MEET MUCH MORE IN OUR WAY TO OUR DESTINATIONS.

We welcome you at the Chennai International Airport and escort you to the selected hotel at Mahaballipuram for an overnight stay.

MAHABALIPURAM

Good Morning, Mahaballipuram !
We dedicate the morning to visit the imposing remains excavated in the rock of the ancient temples that surround this town which was the port of the Pallava dynasty. The simplicity of Mahaballipuram's structures is overwhelming, as is the enclave of one of its most famous temples, the Shore Temple, on top of a promontory overlooking the Bay of Bengal. Mahaballipuram was the façade of the southern kingdom in the 10th century to attract the merchants of the Maritime Silk Route. In the afternoon, if we wish we can walk along the beach, although the enclave is not recommended for swimming due to strong underwater currents.

Overnight stay at hotel.

MAHABALIPURAM

Today we spend the day knowing some projects of Laia Mendoza Foundation in Vedanthangal. This Spanish foundation has been working for the backward classes / communities of the area since 2005 for the economic and social upliftment of the people through education and health awareness. The project bearers / managers  will guide us and show their field work. In the evening we  go back to Mahaballipuram to enjoy the last dinner near the sea.
Overnight stay at hotel.

MAHABALIPURAM TO THIRUVANNAMALAI

After breakfast, we start our drive to Thiruvannamalai, on the foot of Arunachala, the holy mountain of Lord Shiva. We  find here the ashram of Ramana Maharishi, a Hindu Guru with a big impact of practice of Self-Enquiry & Enlightenment in the 20th century.  We can gently afford to get & grasp a few lessons of Yoga & Meditation here.
In the evening, we could attend the ceremonies in the Arunachaleswarar Temple during the sunset.
Overnight stay at hotel.

THIRUVANNAMALAI > GANGAPURAM < THIRUVANNAMALAI

Good Morning, Lord Shiva !
We may wake up early for trekking towards the Arunachala peak, a couple of hours walk with amazing views of the city around.
Later we go to Gangapuram where we  meet the educational project of the NGO AjutSI, a Spanish NGO that  works in collaboration with local projects to fund schools in remote areas. AjutSI's principal project is Parmeswar School at Gangapuram.
On our way back, we can join the evening prayers in the ashram of Ramana Maharishi.
Overnight stay at hotel.

THIRUVANNAMALAI TO THANJAVUR

We start for Thanjavur. Home to many ancient temples and historical palm-leaf manuscripts.  We get familiar with the bronze sculptures and statues in here.  Thanjavur Maratha Palace is home to centuries-old Saraswati Library with historical / ancient manuscripts.
We stay near Kumbakonam where we can make a relaxed visit to the village with historical temples of outstanding architecture.
Tamil Nadu is a state famous for spinning and weaving silk; and it would be good to see the process in person.
Overnight stay at hotel.

THANJAVUR TO MADURAI

Today, we start for Madurai, one of the main religious cities in India. On the way, we visit the project of Exit Trust that works with rural women to offer know-how in employment to make them self-sufficient.  Further students are advised, helped and financially helped to pursue their dream destinations of higher education.  In the evening, we  reach Madurai, the cultural and commercial centre of South Tamil Nadu.
Overnight stay with local families.

MADURAI

Madurai, the Vatican of Hindus, one of the most famous cities in India for its historically religious & mysterious significance. The pilgrims and tourists gather in great number in the historical city, especially around the famous temple of Sri Meenakshi, one of the most kitsch of Dravidian religious art & architecture. The temple seems and is felt alive around.  The ecology and environment of the temple is extraordinary and must be attended and joined to. The concept of pran-pratishtthit statues (statues installed with life / life-air with chanting mantras) as human beings is very much highlighted in here when Meenakshi and Shiva are put together every evening.
We can also approach the labyrinthine market located in north of the temple or visit the Palace of Thirumalai Nayak a short distance away, where we can see the Entrance Gate, the Main Hall and the Dance Hall.
Overnight stay at hotel.

MADURAI (TAMIL NADU) TO MUNNAR (KERALA)

Good Morning, goddess Meenakshi (Parvati) & Lord Shiva !
Early morning we may enter Kerala to visit the tea plantations in Munnar. Munnar is a hill station and home to Eravikulam National Park for the endangered species of wild goats.  We will cross the Ghats, a mountain region with impressive landscapes and wild greenery. In the afternoon we will reach the tea hills of Munnar.
Overnight stay at hotel.

MUNNAR

Good Morning, Munnar !
Munnar is a heaven for tea-lovers.  The teas of India are worldwide famous for their variety, taste and aroma too.  And obviously we are free to pick the best that suits our taste or wish and buy at quite reasonable prices in here.  We may visit a cooperative unit of workers and tea plantation owners too.
We may visit the Eravikulam National Park and see the mountain goats in their natural habitat.  Munnar gives us a little chance to walk through the forests too.
Overnight stay at hotel.

MUNNAR TO KOCHI

Cochin or now, Kochi, had been the port for the merchants of Arab, China and Europe in14th century.
And the life today in here still displays the blend of these cultures and life-styles.

The city of Fort Kochi is situated at an island opposite the port of Ernakulam. Its streets have preserved the colonial life-style / environment, something that has attracted numerous artists and intellectuals. The old houses have been occupied by intellectuals and artists; and a small Jewish community still lives here.  Therefore, Kochi breathes a unique and bohemian atmosphere-cum-social environment with charming cafes and restaurants. At the same time, it is a city full of attractions such as its famous Cantilevered Chinese fishing nets that are a beautiful setting for the sunset. Cochin spice market, the Sun spice market most famous spice market in Kerala and its signs of the Jewish culture remains important to visit and make some purchases.

Overnight stay at hotel.

KOCHI (KERALA) TO BENGALURU (KARNATAKA) (FLIGHT)

After Breakfast we reach the airport to get the flight for Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka.

Bengaluru, formerly Bangalore is a center for high technology & research and is home to the famous Summer Palace of Tipu Sultan and gardens too.

Well. We get to know the history of Tipu Sultan and feel the beauty of gardens around.

Back to hotel for rest.

BENGALURU
Transit to the Kempegowda International Airport is already arranged.
Well.  Now you are confident that you have grasped a lot from the historical temples and gods & goddesses of South India and learnt a few good lessons of Yoga & Meditation too.
You have experienced the living or being at sea, beaches, mountains and of course, among the peculiar people of South India.  THE EXPERIENCE REMAINS GOOD FOR GOOD.  Thanks.

We bid a superfine goodbye and you leave for your home.
