THE TWO FACES OF HIMALAYAS NEPAL AND TIBET

Description

A unique package of knowing the Himalayas from two sides. From the beautiful valleys of Nepal to the Tibetan plateau, this journey takes us to the hanging monasteries of Lamas (Tibetan Buddhist preachers / leaders), the dream city of Lhasa, still dominated by Potala Palace (museum and World Heritage Site), and the incredible roads that cross the highest mountain ports. In Nepal, we experience the unique blend of Hindu and Buddhist culture, share Nepal’s beliefs and enter the fascinating culture of the mountain kingdom. We get to know the Sherpas and may collect a few mementos during this tour that remain with us for the lifetime.

ARRIVAL AT KATHMANDU

BEFORE WE START WE WISH TO EMPHASIZE THAT THE DETAILS OF SITES OR PLACES IN OUR TOURS DO NOT REMAIN RESTRICTED OR CONCLUSIVE. ON THE CONTRARY WE MEET MUCH MORE IN OUR WAY TO OUR DESTINATIONS.

We welcome & receive you at the Tribhuvan International Airport and escort you to the selected hotel for an overnight stay.

KATHMANDU

Full day to discover Kathmandu's heritage.
From the Durbar Square (one of the three Durbar Squares in the Kathmandu Valley – all of them are UNESCO World Heritage Sites), an incredible combination of real and spiritual monuments, we are going to walk through the old city. We enjoy the hidden courtyards full of small temples and shrines indicating the mysticism.
The Kumari House at the Durbar Square is a historical temple and one of the most sacred places in Nepal. This is a Home of the Living Goddess. The Kumari is believed to be incarnation of Goddess Durga. We may see her in the window but taking photographs is strictly prohibited.
In the afternoon, we visit the ancient and mysterious Pashupatinath Temple obviously a UNESCO Wolrd Heritage Site. The temple had been made and constructed in the 3rd century BC and thereafter it has been renovated quite a few times. It has been devoted to Lord Shiva in the form of Pashupatinath, i.e., Pashu (Living beings – human beings, animals and even plants & trees) + Patinath (Absolute Master); speaking to a T, Lord Shiva as Master of Life.
The temple, the seat of the national deity of Nepal, Lord Pashupatinath, stretches on both sides of the Baghmati River, deemed a holy river by the Hindus. Interestingly there are only two Pashupatinath statues / sacrosanct Lord Shiva, one in Kathmandu and one in Madhya Pradesh (India).

KATHMANDU

In one day, we may visit the nearby royal cities of Patan and Bhaktapur. All three Durbar Squares in Nepal, i.e., Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. And we can gently afford to see them all. In the evening we reach Lazimpat, well known for schools, colleges, hotels, restaurants, embassies and department stores.

KATHMANDU TO POKHARA

It’s time to ride towards the high mountains. We cross several mountain ports to reach the city of Pokhara on the foot of Annapurna range. The view from almost any corner of the city is amazing and announce the approach to be in the lap of Mother Nature that we are going to start for.

POKHARA

The valley of Pokhara has several waterfalls, caves and gorges. But one of the most memorable things remains boating in Lake Phewa or Phewa Tal (a fresh water lake). Usually, the Himalayas reflect on its waters and it is also a great place for fishing and swimming when the water is not frigid. In the center of the lake, a temple dedicated to the Goddess Durga known as Tal Barahi Temple gives access towards mysticism.

POKHARA

If you feel like hiking, about 2-3 hours of walking will take you to Sarankot / Sarangkot. We can reach here driving on the highway too.
