DELHI

The capital of India is a book of history and a sizzling modern metropolis. Take your first steps into the narrow alleys of Old Delhi, admire the magnificent urbanism and architecture of New Delhi and end up in some of the happening areas, where you could try the best of Indian food and feel the heartbeat of this emerging megacity. In the evening, we will meet some local families for a real Indian family dinner.

DELHI

Early morning, we will meet our guides for a day. The same children with whom SBT works, will show us how is the life in the streets and how this NGO helps them to have a better life either if they decide to stay in the streets or joining the educational programs. In the afternoon, we will visit the most upcoming neighbourhood of the city.

DELHI – SHEKHAWATI

After breakfast, we start our drive to Jhunjhunu with lunch enroute. This is a long journey that will take us to the semiarid region near to Thar Desert, in the border with Pakistan. In the evening, we will arrive to the town and visit the dargah and the temple of Rani Sati, the biggest temple devoted to a wife who committed ritual suicide in the pyre of her husband. It will be a good chance to talk about the situation of women in India.

SHEKHAWATI

Today we will visit some interesting havelis, the traditional construction in this region. The rich merchants decorated their havelis to show the world to their neighbours and portray their power and richness. In the afternoon, we will spend some time learning to cook Indian food.

SHEKHAWATI – PUSHKAR

Today, we drive to Pushkar, the holy city of Brahma. The legend tells that Brahma complained to the gods, since he was the only who did not have a holy city. Then the gods throw a flower to decide what place inn the Earth should be devoted to Brahma, and if fell on Pushkar. The lake is the centre of this town where people from the entire region gathers to perform rituals to the gods and ask their favours. The sunset in Pushkar is something to remember.

PUSHKAR

In the morning we will take a city tour covering Jagat Pita Shri Brahma Temple, the only temple dedicated to Lord Brahma in India. We will melt in the vivid life of this pilgrimage centre. We will have some time for shopping in the lively bazaar of the town, and in the evening we will trek to Savitri Mandir hill to enjoy the amazing view of the whole region.

PUSHKAR – DUDU

After Breakfast morning drive to Dudu. Here we will share the rural life of Rajasthan in the homestay of the founder of GVNML. This NGO works in water management and women empowerment in the region of Tonk and Dudu, with many years of successful work to improve the quality of life in the villages of Rajasthan.

DUDU – JAIPUR

In the morning, we will have a meeting with one women group. It will be a good chance to exchange opinions and knowledge, and come to know how they organize to improve their position in the public life of their villages. After lunch we will proceed to Jaipur, where we might end up watching some movie in the famous Raj Mandir, one of the historical cinema halls of India.

JAIPUR

Jaipur is also known as the Pink City, because of the particular colour of the walls of its facades. The capital of Rajasthan is an unselfconsciously medieval city, with stately palaces, colourful bazaars and a fort brooding over the city. You can see many beautiful women in long swirling skirts with veils, covering their face. With turbans on their heads, you can see dark tall men wearing red, green, and orange coloured outfits. Enjoying the elephant riding, you can visit Amer fort, Observatory and Palace of Winds, and city palace museum.

JAIPUR > ABHANERI > AGRA

It’s time to drive towards Agra. The former capital of Mughal India is home of the most beautiful Muslim architecture. Enroute we will visit Abhaneri, a royal dwell in a very tiny village in the border between Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. When we reach Agra, we will visit the world famous Taj Mahal, a unique moment in any travel to India. This tomb, built by the emperor Shah Jahan to her favourite wife, is a symbol of eternal love.

AGRA - DELHI

When in town, we cannot miss the Agra Fort where the major events of Mughal Empire took place. But also, it can be a good chance to know the work of Missionaries of Charity, the order founded by Mother Teresa. We will visit their home in Agra, where they help destitute to live with dignity. After lunch you will proceed to Delhi, where you can enjoy a free evening.

DELHI > HARIDWAR > RISHIKESH

We will take the train to the Himalayas. In Haridwar we will meet the Ganges, the Holy River for Hindus where thousands of pilgrims come everyday to have purification baths. The city is considered one of the most sacred places for the devotees and every 12 years the massive Kumbh Mela takes place. We will proceed later to Rishikesh, more laid back and spiritual.

RISHIKESH

The Beatles stayed here for a yoga training and made it famous for foreigners, but Rishikesh has been a pilgrimage and spiritual retirement for centuries. You will see dozens of ashrams where you can practice the meditation and the different branches of yoga. Rishikesh is also a place for a walk in the nature, a consultation with the astrologer or the visit to the aarti, the fire ceremony performed every day at sunset in front of the river Ganges.

RISHIKESH

We invite you today to soak in the Ganges. Upstream there are several places where holy men used to live. The river has quiet places to have a bath in the mountain clean waters. It can be a refreshing and fulfilling experience surrounded by the amazing landscapes of Himalayas first elevations. In the evening, don’t miss the chance for a real Ayurvedic massage in Laxman Jhula.
