HISTORY CULTURE MYSTICISM AND AHMEDABAD

Description

This interesting and fascinating package starts from Delhi, passes through the city of the Nawabs, Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh); proceeds with Hindu spiritualism and mysticism at Varanasi (UP), continues with the mysterious Khajuraho & Orchha (Madhya Pradesh) grasping the possible logics behind the unique sculptures at Khajuraho. The journey reaches the city of the Taj Mahal, Agra and Fatehpur Sikri, the Abandoned City to meet the Mughal architecture and we get to know the history of India too. We still continue to reach the Pink City of India, Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, and freely get acquainted with the desert culture blended with the modern living. Well. Udaipur, the royal city of lakes and palaces is next to get us familiarized with the royal and splendid living around. Hmmmm. Now we are to see Mahatma Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, the largest city of Gujarat. And we need to know how Ahmedabad has been the Manchester of India. Few tourists have been familiar with Ahmedabad and its peculiar culture & history. Now, we come back in the lap of National Capital Delhi to rest a little and have a fine dinner at Vasant Vihar or Defence Colony. You see, you have lived an experience of history, spiritualism, culture, mystery, and of course, fun & frolic.

Late evening, we may have a few drinks at Hauz Khas village, the modern enclave for designers, artists and bohemians all around.

DELHI TO LUCKNOW

Good Morning, Delhi !

We are to get the train to reach the heart of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow, the City of the Nawabs. Lucknow offers fine Mughal architecture, cuisine and even the British or English architecture / monuments. Few tourists pass through this city, but it’s very fine in quite a few aspects of mixed or blended cultures.

Overnight stay at hotel.

LUCKNOW

Good Morning, Lucknow !

We dedicate the full course of the day to know the heritage of the capital of the Nawabs of Awadh. The royal residence, the Bara Imambara and the Chhota Imambara are the superfine examples of the splendor of the Nawabs of the glorious past.

We may visit the markets / bazaars to see the best cotton fabrics with classic patterns and designs of the Islamic living in India.

Lucknow to Varanasi :  Afternoon or later afternoon, we get the train to arrive Varanasi at night.

VARANASI
An Early Good Morning, Varanasi / Kashi / Benares and the Ganges !

We get up before sunrise to observe the palatial facades of the city on the banks of the Ganges and the sunrise itself from the boat in the Ganges. We are free to watch, observe and even attend the morning rituals at the banks of the Ganges.

At a convenient break, we leave for Sarnath, where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon. Sarnath is displayed by Buddhism around. We return to Varanasi and may attend the Aarti at the Ganges (devoted to Lord Shiva, Mother Ganga and the life-powers of the Universe). It is a unique Fire-Worship and certainly fascinating.

Overnight stay at hotel.

VARANASI TO KHAJURAHO & ORCHHA

Good Morning, Varanasi !

Having our breakfast, we start for the airport to get a flight to Khajuraho (Madhya Pradesh).

ARRIVAL AT KHAJURAHO: Obviously a UNESCO World Heritage Site for the unique temples around. The walls of these temples display sculptures of meditation & spiritual teachings. The sculptures of the temples portraying Kama Sutra / Kamasutra (ancient Sanskrit treatise on the art of sex / love-making) are completely & mysteriously unique in the world and most popular attraction among the national and international tourists. World Heritage Site, these millenary temples rise and stand up in peculiar confidence and cool. However, Khajuraho is much more and shows the Hindu architecture that disappeared from the North of India after centuries of Muslim rule.
Overnight stay at hotel.

KHAJURAHO TO ORCHHA

We continue towards Orchha. This town was the capital of the Bundela dynasty in the 16th century and the heritage that has been concentrated on the banks of the river Betwa surprises us all. Raja Mahal (Palace), Cenotaphs (Chhatris)*, tombs and temples are definitely worth watching. It remains pleasant to watch the nearby villagers work and continue with their daily tasks.

*It is worth to watch the sunset in front of the chattris on the banks of the Betwa River.

Overnight stay at hotel.

ORCHHA TO AGRA

Good Morning !

We start for Agra and arrive there at noon. An ideal time to visit Agra Fort, the imperial palace of the Mughals, built in red sandstone on the banks of the Yamuna River. Its marble palaces offer us the first views over the impressive Taj Mahal. This jewel of architecture, the Taj crowns our day, as we will wait for the sunset to see how the changing colors of the sky are reflected in the marble of the Taj. The tomb that Shah Jahan built for his wife Mumtaz Mahal is a World Heritage Site and is considered one of the Seven (7) Wonders of the World.

Overnight stay at hotel.

AGRA TO FATEHPUR SIKRI > JAIPUR

Good Morning, Agra !

We leave for Rajasthan. But halfway, we may stop at the Abandoned City of Fatehpur Sikri, the complex of palaces that Akbar built as new capital for the Mughal Empire. But the city was abandoned by Akbar because of his tasks in the Punjab and scarcity of water supply in Fatehpur Sikri. But its ruins are still in perfect condition. Structures like this have been marvel and confirm that the Mughal architecture had been at the zenith.

Arrived in Jaipur, we are able to spend the afternoon strolling through the bazaars.

Overnight stay at hotel.

JAIPUR

Day for sightseeing the Pink City, capital of Rajasthan. The ancient capital of the kingdom of Jaipur with its intricate works of marble, inlays and frescoes perfectly recreates the way of life of the Rajasthani monarchies.  Sightseeing Jaipur remains fascinating with the people around and their lifestyle. Hard working men and women in their historical-cum-traditional dresses, lurching carts drawn by camels and their pleasant lovely nature to interact with outsiders / foreigners remain unparalleled. You love to walk on foot, ride in rickshaws, cars, vans or buses to City Palace Museum, Jaipur Observatory – Jantar Mantar, Palace of Winds – Hawa Mahal and visit Amer Fort on elephant-back.
Overnight stay at hotel.

JAIPUR TO UDAIPUR

The Delhi-Mumbai Highway connects Jaipur and Udaipur. Udaipur is nestled between Aravalli mountain range and lakes. We arrive at sunset, but we will have time to go out to take a walk on the shores of the Lake Pichola.

Overnight stay at hotel*.

*Those who wish to have a splendid dinner on the shores of the lake can go to the Ambrai Restaurant that offers beautiful views over the illuminated Royal Palace.

UDAIPUR

Day to venture into the most luxurious capital of the ancient principalities of Rajasthan. City Palace is the largest palace complex in Rajasthan located at the east bank of Lake Pichola and has 11 (eleven) wonderful palaces built within its complex. We can see a museum and temple(s) within the Palace. The famous Lake Palace in the middle of lake Pichola remains definitely the most attractive and serene sight. Only those who stay in the City Palace can visit the Lake Palace, that had been the setting for the legendary movie of James Bond's Octopussy. We may visit famous Jagdish Temple, dedicated to Vishnu, or the Saheliyon ki Baori, the Garden of the Maidens of Honor, with its lotuses and roses.
Overnight stay at hotel.

UDAIPUR TO AHMEDABAD (GUJARAT)
