Description

Rajasthan is the land of the Maharajas (literary meaning the Land of the Kings), an exotic and colorful home of the legendary warriors famous for their gallant, magnificent & disciplined lifestyle and romance. The historical palaces, forts, temples and the people of Rajasthan in particular proceeding with their centuries old and matured traditions & the dress-sense remain fascinating.

ARRIVAL AT DELHI

BEFORE WE START WE WISH TO EMPHASIZE THAT THE DETAILS OF SITES OR PLACES IN OUR TOURS DO NOT REMAIN RESTRICTED OR CONCLUSIVE.  ON THE CONTRARY WE MEET MUCH MORE IN OUR WAY TO OUR DESTINATIONS.

We welcome you at the Indira Gandhi International Airport and escort you to the selected hotel for an overnight stay.

DELHI TO SHEKHAWATI / MANDAWA (RAJASTHAN)

We start for Shekhawati – a region that comprises of Sikar, Jhunjhunu and Churu. Shekhawati is a tourists’ paradise that contains innumerable historical beautiful havelis  (grand mansions) – only to leave tourists mesmerized. Further, cultural heritage descending from the valor of Lord Rama and mysticism of Lord Krishna leads to the art & architecture of these marvelous mansions. The historical-cum-traditional water storage phenomenon known as baoris here remains still surprisingly beautiful.

MANDAWA TO BIKANER

Departure to Bikaner, our first stop in the desert. Lunch en route. We have the afternoon available to visit the Fort of Junagarh, a splendid example of palatial architecture. In addition, Bikaner is famous for its grand historical Jain temples. The city is also famous for its schools of miniature paintings. Karni Mata Temple at Deshnok, known for worshiping mice / rats remains bizarre but worth watching.

BIKANER TO JAISALMER

In the morning we start for Jaisalmer, one of the most extraordinary cities in India, known as the Golden City. The city’s most prominent attraction is the Jaisalmer Fort, Sonar Quila (the Golden Fort). The Fort is unique because it houses shops, hotels and ancient havelis (homes) where descendants of the masters / rulers continue to live. Jaisalmer abounds in historical and religious monuments that won’t let us down with interest & fascination any way.

.

JAISALMER

The Fortress City of Jaisalmer stands on top of a hill overlooking the desert. Described as a jewel by the merchants of the caravans, it contains havelis (old grand mansions) and the Jaisalmer Fort (the Golden Fort) has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. We can visit the Fort, the Megh Durbar and the historical magnificent Jain temples. Outside the walls, another great attraction of Jaisalmer are the havelis or palaces of the merchants. The most significant are those of Patwon ki Haveli, Salim Singh ki Haveli and Nathmal JI ki Haveli.

.

JAISALMER TO JODHPUR

After breakfast, we leave for Jodhpur known as the Blue City, with an obvious display of different shades of blue all around – palaces, forts, houses, havelis. We visit Meherangarh fortress, which still belongs to the Maharaja of Jodhpur and is embedded in a rock-mountain 125 m high that dominates the city with a simply incredible shape. Enter the Mehran Fort and we are provided with headphones that explain the history of the city and the fort itself in English and Spanish. One of the best luscious Lassi is prepared in Jodhpur – a yogurt blended with cardamom, cinnamon, sugar and saffron – available in the markets of Jodhpur.

.

.

JODHPUR TO RANAKPUR / UDAIPUR

Today we face and travel the Aravalli mountain range to reach Udaipur, the City of Lakes. In the center of these mountains we visit Ranakpur, the largest set of Jain temples in India - Chaumukha, Neminath, Parasnath and the Sun temples. The main temple, Chaumukha, dates back to the 15th century and has 29 rooms supported by 1444 marble pillars.

.

UDAIPUR

Day to venture into the most luxurious capital of the ancient principalities of Rajasthan. City Palace is the largest  palace complex in Rajasthan located at the east bank of Lake Pichola and has 11 (eleven) wonderful palaces built within its complex.   We can see a museum and temple(s) within the Palace.  The famous Lake Palace in the middle of lake Pichola remains definitely the most attractive and serene sight. Only those who stay in the City Palace can visit the Lake Palace, that had been the setting for the legendary movie of James Bond's Octopussy. We may visit famous Jagdish Temple, dedicated to Vishnu, or the Saheliyon ki Baori, the Garden of the Maidens of Honor, with its lotuses and roses.

UDAIPUR TO PUSHKAR

The road that separates Udaipur from Pushkar brings us back to the culture of the desert, as Pushkar is still an important cameleer center. The holy city of Pushkar is home to one of the few temples dedicated to the creator god Brahma. Performing a pooja or offering in its waters brings visitors good luck. We can continue strolling through its alleys where sadhus and pilgrims abound, as well as enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of Sadar Bazaar. At the end of the day, a sunset behind the ghats offers us an unforgettable view of the lake.

.

PUSHKAR TO JAIPUR

For those who have been left wanting to roam, we have free time in the morning, before leaving for the state capital: Jaipur. Arrival in Jaipur at lunchtime. We can dedicate the afternoon to stroll through the bazaars and get in touch with the vibrant capital of Rajasthan. We may visit a genuine cinema theatre, the Raj Mandir that has been considered the theatre with the largest room-capacity in India. In addition you may find from traditional dinners, to approach the music and dances of this region, to luxurious cocktail bars. Overnight stay at the hotel.

.

JAIPUR

Day for sightseeing the Pink City, capital of Rajasthan. Sightseeing Jaipur remains fascinating with the people around and their lifestyle. Hard working men and women in their historical-cum-traditional dresses, lurching carts drawn by camels and their pleasant lovely nature to interact with outsiders / foreigners remain unparalleled. You love to walk on foot, ride in rickshaws, cars, vans or buses to City Palace Museum, Jaipur Observatory – Jantar Mantar, Palace of Winds – Hawa Mahal and visit Amer Fort on elephant-back.

JAIPUR TO FATEHPUR SIKRI AND AGRA (UTTAR PRADESH)

Departure from Jaipur towards Agra. Halfway, stop at the Abandoned City of Fatehpur Sikri, the palaces complex that Emperor Akbar had built as a new capital for the Mughal Empire. Bur he abandoned the city because of the tasks in the Punjab and as a few historians claim, due to scarcity of water supply.

In the afternoon we can visit the Taj Mahal, the culminated article in Mughal architecture, built between 1631 and 1658 by Emperor Shah Jahan to house the tomb of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Recommendation: Watch the sunset from the gardens of the Taj Mahal and with a bit of luck we can see how the white marble of the Taj changes its shade / color with the sunset and arrival of darkness.

AGRA TO DELHI

In the morning, we visit the Fort of Agra, that still remains magnificent with its impressive marble pavilions and red walls. We also have the opportunity to take a walk through the market of the old city and visit the Great Mosque. Lunch in Agra and departure for Delhi, where we will arrive in the middle of the afternoon. In Delhi we can take the opportunity to visit the Lotus Temple or visit a vibrant site, the Hauz Khas Village, a center for designers, artists, musicians and bohemians. Overnight stay at the hotel.

DELHI

In the morning and during the course of the day we visit India Gate, the Presidential Palace and Gandhi Museum. Late evening you rest at the hotel and prepare for the flight back home

DELHI
